William Watkins

William Watkins was in Whitby 1755. He was a friend and contemporary of Francis Gibson (on this) whose fellow pupil he was with Lionel Charlton. George Markham Tweddell proposed to cover William Watkins (or at least The Watkinses) in a proposed 2nd or 3rd volume of Bards and Authors of Cleveland and South Durham 1972. Tweddell covered Lionel Charlton in the first and only volume and so would be familiar with William.. The 2nd or 3rd volumes never came out but earlier in 1867 Rev Gideon Smales covered William Watson in Whitby Authors and their Publications. John Watkins, the Chartist writer was William's uncle.
